The AzHeC team brings expertise, dedication and commitment to the work of advancing health IT in Arizona.
Chief Executive Officer
Melissa Kotrys is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Arizona Health-e Connection (AzHeC), the Arizona non-profit, public-private partnership that drives the adoption of health information technology (HIT) and advances the secure sharing of electronic health information exchange (HIE). Through statewide education, coordination and collaboration, AzHeC promotes the innovative use of HIT and HIE to achieve the Triple Aim of better care, better outcomes and lower costs.
AzHeC operates The Network, Arizona’s statewide HIE that enables improvements in care coordination and quality by electronically linking health care organizations through a single connection, filling gaps in patient information across the state. The Network serves as a community data trustee and a network of networks that allows participants to save time and resources and create a more comprehensive patient record, providing the right information at the right time and place.
In partnership with Mercy Care Plan and Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care and with funding from the Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative (TCPI) of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), AzHeC also manages the Practice Innovation Institute that is preparing 2,500 Arizona providers for successful participation in value-based health care.
Ms. Kotrys currently serves on the Maricopa Health Centers Governing Council and on the board of the national trade association of community and regional HIEs, the Strategic Health Information Exchange Collaborative (SHIEC). Prior to joining AzHeC, Mrs. Kotrys worked as a consultant and health policy analyst at Deloitte Consulting. Mrs. Kotrys holds a Masters in Public Health from The George Washington University with a concentration in health policy, and a Bachelor of Arts from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
